Today is the last official day of summer vacation 2013, I have to report back for the first contract day tomorrow. Guess where I spent my last day of break? In my room of course! I got quite a bit accomplished and had an unexpected helper (one of my students from last year).
I've been reading up on Readers/Writers Workshop and I am so excited to start both this year! A couple of weeks ago I stopped by Ikea and purchased some magazine boxes for my students to use as their book boxes. They were super cheap at $1.99 for 5. You can also get a great deal on them from Amazon.
That also means the quality isn't great, they are just basic corrugated cardboard. So, I bought 2 rolls of duct tape
and have some reinforced book boxes for my Monday Made It (link up from 4th Grade Frolics).

It took me a few of hours (enough time to watch a couple of movies) and they were all taped up. Today I placed them on the shelf in the classroom. Lovely! Now all they need is student numbers and to be filled with great books!
Now I get to spend the rest of my afternoon in the pool with my sister, nephew, and niece, and then celebrate my sister's and brother's birthday (they were born on the same day, four years apart).
